About
About Kelly Painter; I’ve been guiding since 2017. Grew up on the Oregon coast and learned to fish with my friends on the siletz river mostly targeting summer steelhead after work. I was a Bering sea crab fisherman as a deckhand and then captain for all of my adult life until in early 2021 I decided to make a full time change. I turned my part time job and passion into a full time job as a salmon and steelhead guide. I live in Newport, Oregon and spend September through March fishing locally on the SIletz, Yaquina and Alsea rivers. In April I pack up and start fishing spring chinook on the lower Columbia and then move up into the gorge for Drano lake and the wind river. Off to Alaska in June and July and then the very famous Buoy 10 fishery on the Columbia again in August. Chasing these fish year round requires a very well rounded approach and many different baits and techniques.
At Kelly Painter Guided Fishing, our mission is simple: to share the beauty, excitement, and world-class fishing opportunities of the Columbia River with every guest who steps on board.
